Overview

How do you pick your classes? One of the biggest questions each of us encounter from the first time we start planning for high school is figuring out what classes we want to take. While there isn’t just one perfect way to make this decision I believe one thing to keep in mind when picking your classes is being able to show a decent level of growth while also not overwhelming yourself with classes that are too difficult. For me personally, I started high school with one honors class and the rest normal for freshman year and depending on how confident I felt about being able to go through the normal classes freshman year I tried to show my growth with more difficult classes sophomore year. Taking two AP hours, one honors hour, and 3 normal hours, I started my sophomore year.

Where to Start

In order to come up with at least an outline of a plan for how you will be spending your academic time in high school, it's important to actually know what credits you need ot fulfill for graduation. Below are the basic requirements, it's also best to contact your counselor if you're not sure about what you want to take. (Pictures are linked)

Resources

First and foremost, picking your classes is the most important to getting started in high school. Having access to the Course Catalog is especially important for you to be able to decide which ones and whether you can take the classes of your choice. While the Course Catalog can be difficult to find, our school district website is usually known for having a copy available to the public. (Picture is linked)
